Regulators Approve Vermont Gas Rate Reduction of 5.86%

South Burlington, VT – Vermont Gas is pleased to announce approval from the Public Service Board to reduce rates effective November 1, 2013. The reduction in the cost of natural gas will be passed on to residential and business customers, resulting in prices that are almost 44% less than fuel oil and 54% lower than propane.

Vermont Gas Encourages Efficiency and Enrollment in Discount Programs

South Burlington, Vt. – With winter and extreme weather just around the corner, Vermont Gas is encouraging its customers to explore our energy efficiency programs and the discount rate program for lower-income households. Energy efficiency has saved Vermont Gas customers over $13 million per year. For qualified lower-income households, the discount program can save an additional 20 percent. Natural gas is already roughly half the cost of heating with fuel oil or propane.

Editor’s note: This commentary is by Robert Feuerstein co-owner of Kennedy Brothers in Vergennes. As a co-owner of Kennedy Brothers in Vergennes, I have been looking forward to reducing our greenhouse gas footprint by replacing outdated oil fueled furnaces with smaller, cleaner and more efficient gas furnaces. This will also provide much needed savings to our tenants which are all locally owned small businesses. Thus, I attended the public hearing in Middlebury on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
